Thanks for joining in on our journey towards creating our forever family...

This is the place you can come to witness the adventures we experience as we adopt our child from the beautiful country of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. We hope you will come back often to learn about where we're at in the process, the culture of our child, our hopes and dreams, and to leave comments of encouragement.

A LITTLE TERRIFYING!

Asha is absolutely loving her swimming lessons.  She is getting so comfortable with her front and back float and with being dunked under the water.  She is growing a little more with each passing day, and although she is still a baby in my eyes it makes me sad to think that she isn't going to be this small forever.  With growing comes having to constantly pack away small clothes and buy bigger ones.  And her bathing suit is no exception.

I was working the other day and figured that Daddy and Asha would need something to do, so I sent them to shop for a new bathing suit.  So I talk to Scott on my break and I ask him what did he end up picking out?  Was it something cute?  And he says to me nonchalantly, "Well I didn't pick it out, Asha did."  WHAT? Asha picked out her own bathing suit?  Lovely, I thought.  I'm probably going to see this crazy suit and need to return it now.  But that was not the case.  Asha picked the cutest one of all.  And she looks so adorable in it too!

OUR SNOW ANGEL...

IS SHE CARIBBEAN?  YES.

BUT SHE'S ALSO DEFINITELY CANADIAN!

IS OUR ASHA GOING TO BECOME A HAIR DRESSER?

I've mentioned before how much darked skinned people take pride in their hair - so using the same clips and styling her hair same all the time would not be right or acceptable in the Caribbean.  It is important for us now (and will be for Asha when she's a little older) to have different colored and shaped clips.  These funky clips cannot be found anywhere here - we have actually order them online.
Friends of ours recently came back from a mission's trip to St. Vincent and the Grenadines.  And they were kind enough to do some shopping for us.  They flew back with a variety of clips for Asha and her marvelous "potato buds" or as Asha's Grandma calls them, "Squiggles".  Of course, it wouldn't be right if Mama didn't try out these new barrettes as well.

ASHA'S PIWOAH...

Who would have thought that an 18 month old would be so in love with something as simple as a pillow?

The love of this pillow began months ago when Nana first introduced Asha to a pillow that was once hers when she was a little girl.  The pillow always stayed at Nanny's house and Asha would use it when she would sleepover; that all changed this past weekend.

On Saturday this pillow had to go everywhere with Asha... during nap time of course, to eat at the kitchen table, when getting a diaper change and when going to play outside.  Asha even pulled the pillow along behind her down Nana and Papa's driveway, through the snow and all!  Needless to say, Nana knew that Asha couldn't part with this special pillow so she sent it home with us.  The only stipulation: the pillow returns when Asha visits for a sleepover.

And although Asha really loves this new found friend of hers, she is still willing to share it with you if you ask her very nicely.  And, if you are lucky enough she'll get you to put your head down on her piwoah and will say, "Nana, sleep... Daddy, sleep... Mama, sleep."

Thanks Nana!  Mwah!

PAPA IS FUN...

We went out to see Papa yesterday. Daddy and Nana were both working, but I thought it would be a nice change of scenery for Asha, and would be a perfect chance for Papa to spend some time with his granddaughter.

Ever since we've been home, Asha hasn't left Papa's side and she has formed a very special bond with him. At first we referred to my dad as Grandpa but that quickly changed when Asha's speech improved and she decided on her own that he would no longer be Grandpa or Gramps, but Papa.

If you ask Asha to say, "I... love..." she almost always finishes off by saying "Papa". And if you tell her that we're going to go and see Papa, she will say, "Weeeeeee... Papa... Fun". Can't seem to figure out 100% why she is in love with Papa so much but I am sure it has something to do with the fact that he is goofy and does silly things to make her laugh, whether it's making a tent or a silly sound or face. Sometimes he acts like more of a kid than Asha does; maybe she senses the child in him.

Often Papa will come up with something that many people would think would be the dumbest game or idea, but that Asha absolutely loves. For example, I was busy doing something yesterday and asked Papa to give Asha a snack. Not too difficult you think. But, when I came back into the kitchen to see how they were doing, this is how I found them:

My Dad said to me in a matter of fact tone, "We wanted our snack under the table", like it was an every day occurrence. Their huge German Shepard Chase wanted to be a part of the game as well and tried to get under the kitchen table to join in on the fun. It was so cute to see! And as Miss Asha would say, "Papa... Fun".

DRY DIAPER!!!

Yep, I said it! Can you believe it? Asha went all night with a dry diaper and then went on the potty first thing this morning. What a good girl you are sweetie. Daddy and Mommy are so very proud of you.

A couple of weeks ago Asha started to request to go "poo poo" whenever she had to go potty, but that soon stopped as she began to say poo poo for everything. Oh well. She'll get the hang of it soon.

TRYING TO SLEEP...

DANCING...

Asha is such a funny little girl.

She absolutely loves the heater downstairs. She says goodnight to the heater and even dances with the heater, and when we go in the basement the first thing she looks for is.. you guessed it! The heater. With the heat off, there is still a light at the base that remains on and she will adamantly tell you that it is hot and burns and is dan-gar (danger)! But the cutest thing she does is walks up to the heater and in her sweet, little voice, almost in a whisper says, "Hi Hot".

Here she is dancing with her friend "Hot":
